Golden Apple Award to Gabriel Zarazir
Young Graduate Gabriel Zarazir, the Director of “Le Nucleaire n’est pas plus grave” has won the Golden Apple Award for this year, after his movie has captured the attention of the audience, and has received notable high grades from the jury members, consisted of: Mrs. Rima Sleiman Frangieh (President of AlMidam Ass.), Prof. Emile Chahine, Mr. Nadim Jarjoura, Mr. Marcel Khalifeh, Mrs. Nadine Labaki, Mr. Georges Khabbaz, Miss Nada Bou Farhat, and Mr. Samir Habchi. The prizes were distributed during a big ceremony, attended by most of the jury members and many other social faces and celebrities such as the famous actresses Bettey Tawtal, Randa El Asmar and Julia Kassar, the director of the Goethe Institute-Lebanon Mr. Farid Majari, the cultural attachee of the Polish Embassy in Lebanon Mr. Gawrysiuk, Mr. Yorgo Shalhoub, Mr. Roudny Haddad, Mr. Elie Hoshan and Miss Mireille Eid and many other names.
Director and actor Fouad Yammine was the host presenter of this night who started by welcoming the jury and the audience, where the 25 participating short movies were briefly screened. Following this, honoring certificates where distributed to all the participants for their notable efforts that made them part of Cinemaiyat festival for this year.
The Festival coordinator, Mrs. Nathalie Khawaja, presented 2 Golden Apple souvenirs to the partners of Cinemaiyat in this event: Goethe-Institut Lebanon, and the Embassy of Poland in Lebanon, Mr. Majari and Mr. Gawrisiyuk, as a special thanks to their collaboration and their invitation of the winners to their International Film Festivals in Germany and Poland. The two gentlemen expressed their will in supporting Lebanese cinema and fine arts.
Then it was time to reveal the names of the winners. The audience prize, a trip to Krakov film festival, Poland, was granted to Naji Bshara from NDU, for his movie “talk to the brain” that grabbed the attention of the audience while screening it. The Bronze Apple Award, a professional camera, was also granted to Naji Bshara who expressed his extreme joy for harvesting two prizes in one festival. While the Silver Apple Award, a trip to Krakov film festival, Poland and a considered amount of money, was granted to Karim Ghorayeb form USJ for his movie “Tom”, which showed extremely high technological techniques in filming. Finally, the Golden Apple Award, a trip to Berlin film Festival, Germany, and a considered amount of money, as mentioned above, was granted to Gabriel Zarazir form ALBA university on his movie “Le Nucleaire n’est pas plus grave”.
In this sense, president of Tayyar El Marada and Deputy Suleiman Frangieh expressed his interest in “Le nucleaire n’est pas le plus grave”, saying that it summarizes to a big extent the Lebanese situation, where he continued, joking, saying that copies of this movie should be distributed to the parties negotiating around the round table.
At the end of this special evening, everyone was invited to celebrate the winners and the participants in a Cocktail Party, where aside talks and conversations took place. Finally , the famous violin player Jihad Akel played a marvelous collection of his music.
